No Time For Change
Now's not the time to mix things up.
At 8 p.m. on a Monday night and I am sitting in my bed wearing my matching pajama set, a pumpkin spice candle lit, and my TV playing in the background. Last week, I had set my weekly theme to be routine. I had hoped to take my new habits and turn them into a healthy routine. I failed.
Instead of beating myself up over failing I wanted to dive deeper into why I failed. The approaching cold winter months where the sun sets at 5 p.m. doesn’t make an ideal time for drastic lifestyle changes. I am an avid hater of New Year’s resolutions ( and a “winter arc”) for this very reason. Instead of speeding up and trying to change lifestyles, the next few months are for embracing the cold and the instinct to hibernate. The spring equinox makes for a better time to plan resolutions and for lifestyles changes because of the natural energy shift.
Instead of making changes I am going to embrace these hibernation months. Just because it’s getting colder doesn’t mean I can’t practice new and healthy habits but I believe I set the bar too high for myself at the wrong time. Now is the time to slow down not speed things up.
Going into this week my theme is cozy prep. I understand cozy prep isn’t necessarily a thing but I am making it one. I want to combine practicing cozy habits with winter prep. On Sunday, I practiced this by deep cleaning and organizing my room while listening to a cozy jazz playlist. I am going to continue this theme by trying to make my bed every morning, going for a 15 minute walk outside, making a loaf of banana bread, and organizing my Pinterest.
Last week I failed but it’s a new week so who cares! This week I’m going to slow down, embrace the cold, and practice cozy prep.
